The Stone Bridge girls soccer team started their season off with a home opener 2-0 win over the West Springfield Spartans. The Bulldogs were scoreless in the first half, but were able to get a pair of goals halfway through the second half. Junior midfielder Maggie Finan played the ball through the Spartans' defense to sophomore Heather Finney who took a touch and then shot the ball over the goalkeeper to put the Bulldogs on the board. A couple minutes later, junior midfielder Kayla Valle pressured the goalkeeper as she tried to clear the ball. Valle was able to stop the clear and then put the ball in the back of the next for the second goal of the night. Junior goalkeeper Katie Rhoads and sophomore goalkeeper Nikita Sharif split time in the goal for the shutout. The defense lead by seniors Brigitte Deel, Alyssa Choo, Brenna Rivers and junior Kylie Kosko helped to keep the Spartans from scoring.
